Roy Keane says Chelsea and Spurs pose bigger title threat to Liverpool than Man United

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has admitted that Tottenham and Chelsea pose a bigger threat to Liverpool's Premier League title defence than his former club.

The Blues welcome Jose Mourinho 's side to Stamford Bridge on Sunday with both sides able to go top of the league with victory.

Ahead of United's game at Southampton, Keane revealed his belief that the calibre of players available to both clubs will put them in good stead to maintain Premier League title challenges this season.

“At the moment, I think Chelsea have invested now, they’ve got a stronger squad," Keane told Sky Sports. " The goalkeeper was a big purchase for them.

Chelsea vs Spurs is special rivalry

"Spurs, obviously, have got Kane - a world-class striker and they’ve got a world-class manager.

"So, at this moment in time, you’d say they’re more capable at putting in some sort of title challenge than United are."

His comments were echoed by fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp, who claimed that the difficulties faced by Manchester City and Liverpool this season will blow the title race wide open.

“They’re right in the frame, like Roy just said there," he agreed.

"At the start of the year, we spoke about the likes of Chelsea and Spurs, maybe if they can get into the top four. But with injuries and the circumstances, the way that teams like Man City are struggling for form, these two teams have to believe that something might possibly happen.

"Jose’s got them [Spurs] playing in a Jose manner and the players are really responding to it.

"They’ve been easy to play against over the years, but all of a sudden, they’ve got an edge to the team. We saw that in the way that they performed against Man City and I thought they were excellent.

"[At] Chelsea, Frank has a load of good players they’ve signed and they’re enjoying their football right now, full of confidence, so this is a game I’m really looking forward to."

Chelsea return to UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday with a trip to Sevilla, while Spurs will take on Austrian outfit LASK in their Europa League encounter a day later.
