Roy Keane responds to question about leaving Nottingham Forest for Manchester United

Roy Keane has ruled himself out of taking over as director of football at Manchester United next season.

The Nottingham Forest assistant boss was speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of the Manchester derby on Wednesday night, which saw the Irishman draw praise for his brutally honest and forthright opinions on his old club and current playing squad.

United lost 2-0 and were well beaten by Manchester City at Old Trafford, a result which damaged the Red Devil’s hopes of a top four finish, while boosting City’s title hopes with just three games remaining.

Old Trafford legend Keane ripped into some of the players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, referring to some of them as ‘bluffers’.

But when quizzed if he’d be keen on leaving the City Ground for Sir Matt Busby Way next term, Martin O’Neill’s number two was quick to pour cold water on any potential speculation.

“As a manager? (director of football).

"No, I hope and pray Ole does well,” he told the network, as United plan an overhaul of their recruitment policy during the summer.

Ex-Nottingham Forest star allegedly involved in Chelsea brawl which saw Maurizio Sarri charged by FA

“Like any manager out there if he’s losing football matches you’re going to be under pressure, but he’s got to be given a chance.

“That means getting a few players in that he wants at the club, because clearly he wants to get a few out.”

'I hope he gets this mentality and desire into our squad' - Ex-Nottingham Forest star loved Roy Keane's passion on Sky Sports
