Roy Keane praises Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Daniel James decision

Roy Keane has praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for selecting Daniel James in the starting line-up for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Leeds United.

Expectations were high ahead of the first meeting between the two historic rivals since February 2004 but the hosts swept Marcelo Bielsa's side away.

Two quick goals from Scott McTominay were added to by Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof before the break, with Fernandes then netting from the penalty spot in the second period after James had got himself on the scoresheet.

That goal will provide a significant confidence boost to the former Swansea City man, who has struggled to secure regular first-team opportunities this term.

Ahead of the game, James had not started for United in the Premier League for two months and the Wales international has been regularly linked with a move to Elland Road, where he infamously saw a transfer collapse previously.

Keane believes that it was a brave decision from Solskjaer and one that ultimately paid off, with his pace proving to be a thorn in the side of Leeds.

“He’s had a tough time. He’s had a tough time since he’s gone to United. He started off his career at United really well, but had a difficult few months," he told Sky Sports.

"Again, credit to Ole - he probably thought it was gonna be his kind of game and it’s gonna be open. Going to United was a big move for him.

"Look at his face, it meant a lot to the kid and I’m delighted for him. Playing for Man United is not as easy as everyone thinks, there’s a lot of pressure.”
