Roy Keane praises Edinson Cavani after Manchester United comeback vs Southampton

Roy Keane thinks Edinson Cavani could turn out to be a 'huge signing' for Manchester United after his match-winning performance vs Southampton.

Despite a strong start, United found themselves two goals down at the break on the South Coast, after goals from Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved to change things at half-time, bringing on Cavani who went on to make a seismic impact.

His presence and intelligent movement immediately made United more threatening and the Uruguayan played a crucial role in United's comeback, as he assisted Bruno Fernandes before scoring twice.

Former United captain Keane was initially frustrated with the striker at half-time as it took him a while to get his boots on before entering the pitch, but he went on to say that he proved his quality with the performance.

“He was obviously slow getting onto the pitch with those boots," Keane said on Sky Sports after the game. "Just as well he did score because how the guy isn’t prepared and ready to go on is mind boggling. Obviously he didn’t need the boots in the end, he scored with two headers and had a great contribution when he came on. He obviously still has that quality, and the hunger and desire.

“It was always a gamble when he came to the club. People were doubting why he came to the club, did he have the hunger and desire? We’ve seen clips of him in some other games and we thought, ‘Has he still got it?’, but we’ve seen proof of it today, he could turn out to be a huge signing for United. It’s worked out well today.”
