Roy Keane pays the ultimate compliment to Declan Rice

Roy Keane thinks Declan Rice would be a great fit in the Manchester United midfield.

And the United legend thinks the West Ham man is even better than he was at the same age.

It comes as Rice, 22, is being linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford after continuing to impress for the Hammers and England.

Asked ahead of West Ham's clash with United if Rice would improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's midfield options, Keane was certain.

"I think he would," Keane replied, "Declan has improved more than anyone, over the past season or two, that I've looked at."

He continued: "If you had asked me a couple of years ago I would have said no, give him another year or two, in terms of maturing. He's 22 and I look at where I was when I was 22, and he's way ahead of me.

"I think the next step will come for him when he's playing at a higher level. When I say a higher level, I mean the likes of Man United, Champions League, competing for trophies.

"He's obviously a regular for England. The big pluses - there's obviously a lot more to come from him. I know what Graeme [Souness] is talking about, with the forward passing and that bit of cuteness. I think that will come from him. It will come from playing bigger games.

"He's always available, he plays the games and he's a big presence out there. It will be a really good judgement, on today. I'm not a big fan of the United midfield - I think they're a bit short - so we'll see how he does today."
