Roy Keane names two England stars who are "ready to explode" after dips in form

Roy Keane believes Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling will be back to their best when representing England at Euro 2020.

The attacking duo both experienced dips in form in the Premier League this season, throwing their starting places at the upcoming international tournament into doubt.

Sterling's Premier League goalscoring tally of ten in the 2020/21 season was half of the number he managed in the previous year and Rashford also failed to hit the same heights reached in 2019/20.

There has been plenty of debate as to who should be named in Gareth Southgate's first starting-eleven to face Croatia on Sunday, as the Three Lions look to get off to a good start.

With all of the attacking talent at Southgate's disposal, the England boss may struggle to find room for Rashford and Sterling. But Keane is of the view that both players should start, due to heading into the tournament with a point to prove.

"Sometimes you look at players who have had a quiet spell; quiet because they've set such high standards," he said when in conversation with Micah Richards.

"Rashford and Sterling, for example. But I think that is a good thing. You're going into the tournament going 'these lads are ready to explode'.

"Gareth definitely likes Rashford and Sterling," added Keane.

Based on recent friendlies with Austria and Romania, Jack Grealish has been the one player that has impressed many supporters.

The Aston Villa captain demonstrated effective link-up play with those in attack and drew fouls on a number of occasions throughout both games.

Keane delivered a controversial opinion on the 25-year-old, stating that Grealish may miss out due to the talent of Phil Foden and Mason Mount.

"Listen, I like Jack. But I think if Jack is playing, you have to be realistic Micah. You'd have to leave out Mount or Foden," he said.

England are currently listed as second favourites to win Euro 2020 behind France, with many backing the Three Lions' youthful squad to play without fear at the tournament.

Keane admitted to being a big fan of the current group of players, but believes England will just miss out on glory.

Providing his take on the Three Lions' chances, he said: "I'm going to probably say the semi-final. They may be caught out."
