Roy Keane names Manchester United weakness that is preventing Premier League title challenge

Roy Keane believes Manchester United need more defensive reinforcements as he spoke about the huge gap between his former side and the Premier League title winners.

In the week where Liverpool's league crown was confirmed, as rivals Manchester City slipped up against Chelsea, the former United captain has been asked about what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side must do to mount a realistic title challenge.

Many are tipping United to show major improvements next season, as they're currently on a 14-game unbeaten run and with the promising partnership between Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

But Keane thinks United are a bit short in defence and doesn't believe Solskjaer's men will pip either Liverpool or City to the league title in the 2020/21 campaign.

"The league table doesn’t lie," he told the Irish Independent and added that he believes United "are a bit short at the back".

"It will be hard to get past Liverpool or Man City over the next 12 months."

After United returned to action with a 1-1 draw with Tottenham earlier this month, Keane was very critical of three of United's defensive players in Luke Shaw, David de Gea and Harry Maguire.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "I am sick to death of this goalkeeper. I would be fighting him at half-time. There is no getting away from that. I would be swinging punches at that guy."

He then claimed he "wouldn’t even let [De Gea and Maguire] on the bus back after the match. Get on a taxi back to Manchester."
