Roy Keane mocks 'soft' Arsenal in stinging verdict of Mikel Arteta's side after Wolves defeat

Roy Keane blasted "soft" Arsenal after their defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers before sarcastically claiming the Gunners are in a relegation battle.

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 at home by Wolves in Sunday's Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium.

Pedro Neto's opener was soon cancelled out by a Gabriel header but Daniel Podence scored what turned out to be the winner before half-time.

The match was marred by an injury to Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, who was taken to hospital following a nasty clash of heads with David Luiz.

Reflecting on the game itself, Keane was less than impressed by what he saw from Mikel Arteta's side.

"There's a softness to Arsenal now," the legendary former Manchester United midfielder told Sky Sports.

"I think they're lacking a little bit of confidence, they're lacking goals - but a huge result for Wolves.

"I think a lot of the players aren't good enough, I think there is a softness there.

"A few weeks ago, all the cheerleaders were out when they had a decent performance up at (Manchester) United.

"They've had one point since then and lost the other two games.

"I think they're soft. They're probably lacking a bit of confidence.

"I didn't see that real fight that the manager was talking about. I didn't see that desire, that determination to get a result.

"You can have an off night, of course, but you still find a way to get a result.

"At this moment in time, I don't see that from this group of players. I think they look a bit soft."

Although Arsenal beat Keane's former club United at Old Trafford not so long ago, they are now 14th in the table with 13 points from their opening 10 matches.

They are closer to the top four than the bottom three, though, and Keane joked that he was backing the Gunners to avoid the drop this season.

Keane, who enjoyed many battles with Arsenal during his playing career, added with a wry smile: "I still think they'll have enough to stay up! I think they'll be strong enough to stay in the division!"
