Roy Keane jokes as he shares family snap while on holiday with kids

The controversial but never tame Roy Keane has shown his softer side after posting a holiday picture with his children enjoying the swimming pool this weekend.

"Downtime before the Euros. Health and safety has gone mad, apparently kids now need to wear armbands," the former Ireland football player said in an image of him playing with his children in the pool while on holidays.

Fans of the pundit joined in on the fun, jokingly commenting "that's your job" under the image on social media.

Others were shocked to see Keane away from what they thought would be an intense pre-match warm up to give viewers his sharp thoughts on each game.

"Swimming on your holidays?! I'm flabbergasted," one person commented.

Of course there were some who took Keane's comments in earnest and went on to agree that "the world has gone soft."

Some of Keane's 1.4 million Instagram followers even commented: "Do me a favour" at the thought that children should have to wear armbands in swimming pools for health and safety reasons.

Euro 2020 coverage

Keane is due to join ITV in offering his commentary on this year's UEFA Euro 2020 football tournament.

Graeme Souness will head up this summer’s ITV coverage and will feature the experienced views of Keane, Gary Neville, Patrick Vieira, Andros Townsend and Scott Brown, among others.

At home on RTÉ Richie Sadlier, Liam Brady, Damien Duff, Karen Duggan, Kevin Doyle, Didi Hamann and Stephanie Roche will make up this year's panel of pundits, giving their thoughts on each match.
