Roy Keane joins Sky Sports punditry team for Premier League season

Roy Keane has joined Sky Sports' punditry team for this season.

The controversial former Manchester United captain most recently worked as an assistant manager to Martin O'Neill at Nottingham Forest after also teaming up for the Republic of Ireland.

Keane has made clear his desire to return to management, but the Corkman has called joining the Sky Sports team as the "next best thing".

The 48-year-old is set be in the studio for coverage of West Ham vs Manchester United and Chelsea vs Liverpool on Sunday, where he'll join his former teammate Gary Neville and Liverpool favourite Jamie Carragher.

Keane has regularly worked as a pundit for ITV on their coverage of international football but today's news means we will be seeing a lot more of him on our TV screens.

He said: "I've worked with Sky Sports quite a few times over the years and it's always been an experience I've enjoyed, so this makes absolute sense.

"While I'm not coaching I still want to be involved in the game and in some ways, this is the next best thing.

"It's a game of opinions, I've never shied away from giving mine and that's only going to continue this season. Sky Sports has always been famous for the heated debates - I look forward to starting a few more."

Keane is the latest high-profile signing from Sky Sports to the punditry team after Jose Mourinho's move into the studio for the season, following his departure from United in December.
