Former Manchester United midfielder has defended Steve Bruce and praised the work he has done, stating Newcastle United do not have the players to play exciting football.
The Magpies have struggled to find consistency this season, hovering in the lower half of the standings at this early stage and being unable to string together a run of form.
Bruce's leadership has been brought into question, particularly around the style of play, but Keane has lept to the defence of his former teammate.
“There was no doubt in my mind that when Brucey got the job, he was gonna do well at Newcastle," he told Sky Sports.
"He’s vastly experienced, I know they’ve been criticised for not being very exciting to watch, but that’s because I don’t think they have the players for it.
"I don’t think Newcastle have been exciting for years, and even when they were exciting, they never won anything anyway, so I don’t know why everyone’s getting too worried about that.
"Brucey will do a very good job for Newcastle, his job when he went there was to steady the ship. Fortunately, he got a few bob this summer to spend, and I think there will be no worries about Newcastle.
"I think they will be around mid-table and that’s down to Brucey.”
Newcastle's campaign will be disrupted by another international break after next weekend's clash with Southampton but return with a crucial run of games heading into December.
