Roy Keane issues blunt Manchester United title prediction for 2021/22 season

Manchester United great Roy Keane has issued a blunt assessment of the club's Premier League title chances heading into next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have sealed a top-four spot and will compete in the Europa League final later this month, making significant improvements from last term.

Likely to finish second in the league, United have been Manchester City's closest competitors this season with defending champions Liverpool struggling - presenting a solid platform for the club to build upon.

However, Keane is unconvinced by the squad overall following back-to-back defeats over the course of two days to Leicester City and Jurgen Klopp's side.

"Man City and Liverpool have raised the bar in the last few years. This idea of finishing second, it's not as if they've finished second on the last day of the season, City won the league months ago," he told Sky Sports.

"The league has been over for a while. United have been in their comfort zone, knowing they're second and getting a few plaudits and I've been one of them.

"But all of a sudden, I'm looking at this group of players and their mentality, it's nowhere near good enough. This group of players will not close the gap on Man City next year, no chance."

United are now on the brink of concluding their campaign, bringing the Premier League season to a close with matches against Fulham and Wolves.

Solskjaer's side will then look ahead to the Europa League final against Villarreal in Gdansk, as they seek to end the season with a trophy.

United are then set for what is likely to be a busy transfer period, which will be complicated by the European Championship.
