Roy Keane isn't surprised at Portugal snub of Man United's Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United legend Roy Keane wasn't surprised that Bruno Fernandes was dropped again for Portugal's game against Belgium.

Fernandes is playing at this summer's European Championship with his nation and, while United's top goalscorer this season started in Portugal's opening two games of the tournament, coach Fernando Santos has notably since dropped the playmaker to the bench.

There was no room for Fernandes in Portugal's starting XI for their Round of 16 fixture against Belgium on Sunday night, but Keane wasn't surprised at his omission from the starting lineup, though, as he explained in the ITV studio when previewing the contest.

“No, [I’m] not really [surprised] because of the other options. He’s not really been in top form in the tournament. His body language is not great and he’s not performed,” Keane told ITV Sport ahead of the game.

“The beauty of it for the manager is you like at the Portuguese players and the options he’s got. The plus for Portugal so far is they’ve scored seven goals but they’ve conceded six.

“The worry for Portugal with the way they play, and particularly for the attacking players, if this turns into a shoot out I think they’ll suffer today. But no surprise with the changes he’s made.”
