Roy Keane hammers Anthony Martial as he makes Manchester United claim about the forward

Manchester United great Roy Keane has hammered Anthony Martial following the Reds' 2-0 defeat at Liverpool this afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men arrived at Anfield without a key man in Marcus Rashford due to a back injury, meaning the pressure was on Martial to step up.

Liverpool led early on thanks to Virgil van Dijk's header before the home side had efforts from Roberto Firmino and Gini Wijnaldum ruled out by VAR and due to offside respectively.

But then Martial had his chance to shine for United in the second half when he went through on goal in the penalty area before firing over the bar with a wild shot, with Mohamed Salah sealing the game for Liverpool late on.

Keane was analysing the Martial incident post-match in the Sky Sports' studio when he laid into the 24-year-old forward for not coming to the fore in that moment.

"They had a big chance with Martial. You try to stay in the game of football and there was plenty of effort from United. We know that. Good desire from the players, especially the young players," Keane told Sky Sports.

"Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) did well with the way they were set up. The big opportunities, Liverpool getting a little bit sloppy. They were getting back into the game, you’re always going to get one big moment.

"Martial, you come to Manchester United you have to go bang in the big moment. For me, that sums up his career in a nutshell at Man United. Excellent build up play but you hit that target, no excuses. You hit that target, the big strikers at Man United who are remembered by the supporters, they certainly hit the target and hit the back of the net.

"That’s why that guy is not quite good enough for Man United. That moment summed them up."
