Roy Keane grilled over Celtic job by Rangers legend Ally McCoist

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed he attempted to grill Roy Keane over the possibility of him taking the Celtic job.

But McCoist admits he received nothing but the Irishman's infamous stare in return.

Speculation has been rife that Manchester United icon Keane is poised to be named Neil Lennon's Parkhead successor, reports The Daily Record.

He kept quiet on the issue during punditry appearances over the past week and it appears it wasn't just a dignified silence for the cameras.

The pair crossed paths at Wembley on Thursday during England's World Cup qualifying victory over San Marino.

McCoist maintains he did his best to draw some gossip from Keane but confessed he left London none the wiser over who Celtic will next install in the hotseat.

He told talkSPORT : "He never let out the bag whether it was the Celtic job or not, but I did my job.

"Well, he just effectively ignored me, really. He just looked at me as if to say 'yeah, I'm really going to tell you the answer'.

"I got the stare. You know the stare!

"I was on the receiving end of it at Wembley on Thursday and I still don't know whether he's going to get the Celtic job.

"That's where we are on it."
