Roy Keane gives bitter response to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard winning title with Rangers

Graeme Souness has congratulated Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard after his Scottish Premiership victory with Rangers was confirmed following Celtic's 0-0 draw with Dundee United on Sunday afternoon but Roy Keane refused to do the same.

Gerrard has produced a masterful season as manager of the Scottish club.

Through 32 games, Rangers have won 28 games, drawn four, and lost none. They have scored 77 goals and conceded just nine, yielding an incredible goal difference of +68.

Their 88 points from 32 games is a remarkable achievement. This is Rangers' first title in 10 years, and their first since entering administration and being relegated to the bottom of the Scottish football pyramid.

They can end the season unbeaten, matching Celtic's Invincible season of 2016/17 under Brendan Rodgers.

And Souness, who was a Rangers fan as a boy, managed the Scottish club for 261 matches in all competitions, and is a Liverpool legend for his role in the teams of 1980s, congratulated Gerrard after the achievement was confirmed.

"Delighted for Steven Gerrard and all his team," he said on Sky Sports . "Celtic have had a period of dominance, which has been, I'll say, uncomfortable for us Rangers supporters."

He added: "They thoroughly deserve it. They've been fantastic all season and I just wish I was in Glasgow right now."

Keane was asked if he had a message of congratulations for Gerrard and Rangers, he jokingly said: "For Rangers? No.

"Listen, obviously it's been a tough year for Celtic, but they'll bounce back like all great clubs do."

On Gerrard, Souness said: "He’s been fantastic. He’s worked away quietly, this is his third year. Nothing was going to happen overnight for him simply because of where Rangers have been.

"It’s been a slow burn, he’s got them back and now they’re reaping the rewards of all the hard work from him and his staff and the work the players have put in. I’m delighted for everybody who’s connected to Rangers Football Club."

Liverpool were quick to send a message of congratulations from the club.

They replied to Rangers' official tweet celebrating the victory with the message: "Congratulations from all of us at #LFC to Steven Gerrard and his team on winning the Scottish Premier League title."
