Roy Keane fires warning to Ange Postecoglou after ex-Tottenham boss signs 18-month Nottingham Forest contract

Roy Keane says he was not surprised by Nottingham Forest’s decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo and has issued a warning to new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Forest confirmed the former’s departure late on Monday, citing ‘recent circumstances’ as a factor in the decision after the Portuguese head coach had fallen out with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Less than 24 hours later, Postecoglou was announced as Espirito Santo’s replacement with the Australian returning to management for the first time since being sacked by Tottenham at the end of last season.

Delivering his verdict on the managerial change, Keane - while on punditry duty for ITV during England’s World Cup qualification win over Serbia on Tuesday night - said he had no sympathy for Espirito Santo and has warned Postecoglou that he will be under pressure working for an owner like Marinakis.

He said: "I'm not surprised. Why should we be surprised about what happens at Nottingham Forest?

"I think we know what the owner's like. No surprises.

"And I've no sympathy for any manager, either, that goes to Forest.

"Listen, you're going to be under pressure with the owner there.

"So I certainly wasn't surprised when they moved him on. Yeah, it's tough."

Postecoglou’s first game in charge of Forest will be against Arsenal on Saturday as Premier League action resumes after the international break.

The new Forest boss has already been handed a massive injury scare ahead of his return to north London as full-back Ola Aina was forced off just 10 minutes into Nigeria's 1-1 draw with South Africa with a suspected hamstring injury.

It has been reported that Postecoglou has signed an 18-month contract, keeping him at the City Ground until the summer of 2027.
