Roy Keane revealed that his winning mindset at Manchester United meant that he couldn't relax and was "never happy" at Old Trafford.
The former Red Devils and Ireland skipper was speaking with Gary Neville on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football retro version in which they analysed an old game.
Neville, analysing United's 6-1 win over Arsenal in the 2000/01 season, began by explaining how that victory told Alex Ferguson's squad they would be title winners that year.
But Keane responded by revealing his own mentality, which was never to ease up even if the title was won.
“Believe it or not, I’m going to disagree with Gary,” Keane said.
“I didn’t fall for that at all, throughout my career I never thought that anything was easy. We made it look easy at the end, but that was because we worked really hard.
“Even when you were 10 or 13 points clear and people say it felt like the league was won, I never felt that way, it wasn’t in my make-up.
“I wish I was a bit relaxed when we were so far clear, but I felt I couldn’t relax. I couldn’t think that way, that was my mindset and I was never happy really.”
Keane's attitude is doubtlessly why Ferguson chose him as captain for such a long spell, with the Cork native winning seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League during his time at Old Trafford.
Keane left United in 2005 after a public spat with Ferguson, managing Sunderland and Ipswich and assisting Martin O'Neill with Ireland, before more recently appearing regularly as a pundit alongside Neville for Sky Sports.
