Roy Keane has compared England midfielder Phil Foden to Paul Scholes after his eye-catching performance against Iceland.

Manchester City man Foden scored twice as the Three Lions ended their Uefa Nations League campaign with a 4-0 win at Wembley.

Keane was hugely impressed and believes there are elements of his former Manchester United teammate in the 20-year-old's game.

"Two excellent goals. I loved his first goal, we’re talking about making runs in the box, right at the end a bit like what Paul Scholes used to do," he said.

"Sometimes it’s about standing still and that’s football intelligence and, again, he’s 20 years of age. It was an excellent performance.

"He’s made a mistake a couple of months ago but he’ll be delighted with that. He’s a great prospect."

Fellow pundit Ian Wright was in agreement with what he saw from Foden.

"It’s a fantastic performance from him," he added. "You’re pleased to see him come back from what he’s come back from simply because you just want a young player to be able to do that in peace which he was given.

"The way he picks up the ball in these areas, we know what he’s capable of doing as he does it for Manchester City.

"It’s a massive plus for another England player that can create because that’s what you want."
