Roy Keane claims two Manchester United stars were 'a disgrace' against Liverpool

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has branded Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw a “disgrace” for their roles in their side’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

The Reds claimed a historic 5-0 victory over their bitter rivals in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford last Sunday in a day to forget for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’ side.

And although United eased the pressure on their boss with a 3-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday evening, Keane couldn’t help but take aim at his former side before the game.

Keane took aim at Maguire for “talking like a robot” after matches, as well as ripping into Shaw’s current form and also claimed Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not good enough for United.

He said: "It was an embarrassing performance.

"I heard Bryan Robson speak during the week, who was obviously a great player for Manchester United and a man full of courage, and he felt that the players gave up which I think is the biggest insult you can give to a professional footballer. Unacceptable.

“There was a lot of talk coming out this week, a lot of rubbish from players, apologies left right and centre.

“It’s no good. It’s all rubbish all that kind of nonsense coming out from players and team Rashford and Maguire.

“Fernandes a few weeks ago when he missed a penalty against Villa. Just turn up and give everything you’ve got for the club and they didn’t do that last week. This idea of players giving is the worst insult for a professional football player.”

Before he continued to Sky Sports: “They need to show some character.

“United have some many talented players especially going forward but a lot of the players defensively, the two lads in midfield, but Maguire and Shaw last week they were an absolute disgrace to the club.

“These are established international footballers. Wan-Bissaka, I don’t even think Palace would take him back! He’s not good enough for Manchester United.

“No feel for the ball, decision making. But what Manchester United have always had over the years is players with character, with personalities - I don’t see it with this group.

“I remember Maguire talking in the week, he was like a robot. He was like, ‘uhhh ohhh apologies to the fans,’ there was no emotion behind it.

“And these guys are on the back of a European championship for England so they’ve turned up before for big matches. Shaw has fallen back into his own half from a few years ago.

“I’m fed up with this chat after games, people apologising. You need to sort your game out! You need to get the basics right. Do your own job.

“People keep saying, ‘he might not be fit,’ - be fit? He gave away a goal to Leicester the other week, it's nothing to do with fitness! Just a lack of professionalism, not doing his job properly. Midfield and defensively you do worry.”
