Desperate Frank McAvennie has pleaded with Celtic to give Roy Keane a serious look as their search for a new manager goes on.
Eddie Howe remains the frontrunner to earn the job and talks remain ongoing with the 43-year-old who has been out of work since leaving Bournemouth last summer.
Keane has been linked with Celtic on numerous occasions and again this time around is still among the bookies favourites to become the next Parkhead boss.
And McAvennie believes the Manchester United legend's acerbic way is just the tonic needed to right a team who watched on as Rangers romped to the earliest title win in Scottish football history.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “If Roy Keane comes into Celtic, he will bring in the kind of player who can deal with his approach.
“The Celtic players at the moment, they can’t handle that, they’re soft. Your manager should be able to criticise you if you do something wrong.
“Your gaffer should be shouting things like ‘what are you doing?’ and if they can’t handle that they go and cry to their mum.
“Sometimes Keane’s temper can get the better of him but what’s he supposed to do if one of his players has a terrible first half? It’s part of football.”
