Roy Keane Celtic advice as Graeme Souness highlights global factor of Steven Gerrard battle

Roy Keane should walk to Glasgow to become Celtic manager according to Graeme Souness.

Eddie Howe remains the first choice to permanently replace Neil Lennon as the club’s new manager, but his representatives claim he won’t make a decision until the summer and the Hoops hierarchy may move on if that doesn’t fit their timeline.

Keane has been linked with a return to the club where he spent a season in 2005/06 after leaving Manchester United.

The Republic of Ireland international has managed a club side in a decade but was recently national number two to former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill.

Ex- Rangers boss Souness is a regular pundit alongside Keane on Sky Sports and revealed he’s spoken with the Old Trafford legend about returning to management.

And he’s convinced Keane going head-to-head with Steven Gerrard would send Scottish football global.

Speaking to Irish radio programme Off the Ball, Souness told Keane: “Walk up there. He’s desperate to get back. I know Roy, we lived near each other in Cheshire. I;ve waved to him a few times when he was walking his dog because he used to come down the lane where I used to live. He’s very funny.

“He’s a football man and I've spoken about him returning to management and he's very keen to do that. I’ve said to people close to him: ‘Can you imagine how good it’ll be if it’s Roy Keane versus Steven Gerrard in Glasgow? All of a sudden, it’s not just Scotland, Ireland and a wee bit of England talking about Scottish football again. The world would be talking about it.”
