Roy Keane can't resist dig at Jamie Carragher amid Manchester United fan protest

Roy Keane couldn't resist having a dig at Jamie Carragher amid Manchester United fans protesting at Old Trafford today.

Thousands of angry supporters broke into United's stadium ahead of their Premier League clash against rivals Liverpool to protest against the club's owners the Glazers.

Many of them even got onto the pitch just hours before the game was due to kick-off, as they were chanting 'you scouse b*******' and 'we want Glazers out'.

Some of those involved then targeted the Sky Sports pundits, including Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness, with one flare narrowly falling short of making it into the pundits box.

Flares were thrown in their direction, while United fans joined in a chant of 'Keano, Keano' at the sight of former Red Devils captain Roy Keane.

Also on duty for Sky Sports were Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher who were both behind the supporters' motives as long as it stayed peaceful.

Carragher said: "I'm not going to stand here and have a go at the United supporters, as long as it's peaceful. The owners only have themselves to blame."

Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones confirmed that the protest had been largely peaceful and that only a couple of objects had been thrown by those protesting. But sitting nearby, Roy Keane could not resist poking fun at former Liverpool defender Carragher.

He said: "It was a peaceful protest. A couple of bottles and flares were thrown but, I think, they were at Jamie, to be fair!"

Fans were seen climbing on top of the goals and removing the corner flags which had been prepared ready for the game to kick-off at 4:30pm.

Some fans had also congregated at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, where United meet ahead of every home game, to protest with more flares being let off outside.

Those protesting have been unhappy with the way United have been run by the Glazers ever since their takeover, but the club's recent involvement in the failed European Super League plot has stirred up some old emotions.
