Roy Keane blasts 'idiot' Kyle Walker for 'car crash' defending against Liverpool

Roy Keane has labelled Kyle Walker "an idiot" after his mistake cost Manchester City a penalty against Liverpool.

The right-back was turned by Sadio Mane who was then scythed down by Walker which resulted in referee Craig Pawson pointing to the spot.

Mohamed Salah slotted home to give the Reds the lead after 13 minutes.

Liverpool dominated the early exchanges before City pegged them back and equalised through Gabriel Jesus.

The game hung in the balance at half-time, but Keane didn't hold back in his assessment of Walker.

"Because he's up against an idiot." he said when asked how Mane was able to win a penalty.

"Kyle Walker, people keep telling me he's playing. I don't think so.

"I think this guy, he's 30 years of age, international player, he's a car crash.

"Keeps making these types of mistakes and rightly punished for it."

Walker has been a regular at City since joining from Tottenham in 2017.

His form has been mixed in recent years, which saw him dropped from the England squad before an improvement saw him recalled by Gareth Southgate.

And Micah Richards had sympathy with Walker, who he praised, but confessed he made the wrong decision.

"He's been in good form and I think Roy's taking it a little bit overboard there," he claimed.

"He's been one of City's best players, but he gambles there on Mane. He should've just waited.

"He gambled that he's going outside, and before you know it Mane was there and he took him down."

Walker and the City defence are up against a four-pronged Liverpool attack after Jurgen Klopp named a surprise line-up.

The German opted to go with Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah from the start.
