Roy Keane baffled after Mike Dean books Fred and denies Manchester United a penalty vs Man City

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has questioned why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were not awarded a penalty during the first half of the Manchester derby.

Anthony Martial opened the scoring against Manchester City following a smart free-kick but United then saw a golden opportunity to extend their lead pass them by.

Nicolas Otamendi appeared to have fouled Fred inside the box but the United midfielder was booked for simulation, a decision that baffled Keane - who was part of the Sky Sports panel for the game.

"I'm scratching my head. I think it's a blatant penalty, Fred gets booked with a yellow card, but does he [Otamendi] not kick his leg here?" he said at half-time.

"He takes him out. Does he exaggerate the dive? Of course, that's what they all do, but it's a foul, surely. He's kicked him right in the shin."

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards also begrudgingly admitted that the decision was an incorrect one and a penalty should have been awarded.

"If I'm being honest, you've definitely seen penalties given for that. It was a bit theatrical the way he went down, maybe that is why he has got a yellow card," he added.
