Roy Keane asked about Manchester United director of football position

Roy Keane has said he would not be interested in becoming Manchester United's first director of football - even if he didn't already have a job in football.

Keane was on punditry duty for Sky Sports during the Manchester derby and didn't hold back with his scathing assessment of United's players during the defeat.

United began the game with promise but couldn't capitalise and faded after the break. They were ultimately undone by two David de Gea mistakes as goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane allowed City to take a huge step towards retaining their title.

Keane was not impressed by United's performance and was extremely critical of several players.

United supporters were impressed with Keane's impassioned rant and many called for him to be brought back to to the club in some capacity.

When asked if he would return to United were he not in his current position as Martin O'Neill's assistant at Nottingham Forest, he answered: “No, no, no...

“I hope and pray Ole does well, he’s a good guy. Like every other manager if he’s losing, he’s under pressure. He’s been a big favourite, and he’s got to win football matches.

"But he’s got to be given a chance by getting players in because clearly he’s got to get players out."

Solskjaer hints which Manchester United players he will keep at the club

The difference in quality between the two sides was clear at Old Trafford and Keane believes that United have 'slackened off in every aspect' and have allowed City to overtake them.

“City’s recruitment has been better over the last couple of years," United's former captain added.

"We’ve been critical of United and the recruitment because it hasn’t been where it should be. When we were at United, we always felt that we were on top of everything.

Solskjaer sends David de Gea a message after another Manchester United mistake

Manchester United manager Solskjaer responds to Roy Keane rant

"First class on the pitch, scouting, behind the scenes, on the training pitch, in the medical department. I just get the feeling that United have slackened off in every aspect.

"They’ve invested heavily over the years but it hasn’t worked. They've sacked managers, invested huge sums in transfer fees, and huge wages but it hasn’t come off."
