Roy Keane believes that Mikel Arteta deserves more time to try and turn Arsenal's fortunes around despite their 2-0 defeat against Chelsea.
It was a below-par performance from the Gunners who allowed the visitors to dominate from the off and secure a deserved win thanks to early strikes from Romelu Lukaku and Reece James.
Arteta's men showed a bit more fight in the second-half but lacked any real cutting edge to get back into the game and remain without a goal or a point from their opening two matches.
They sit in 19th place just ahead of Norwich, who have conceded four more than the Gunners and face a thankless task of a trip to reigning champions Manchester City next weekend.
Former Manchester United midfielder Keane, however, believes that Arteta should be given a "little longer" in the helm due to the situation he's in with the amount of injuries and illness at the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Super Sunday, he said: "There is obviously a lot of uncertainty.
"You can almost see that his brain was ticking over and he’s trying these things but he has got injuries, they brought players in and spent big money, but they are buying potential.
"He’s had 20 months, I would just give him a little longer, you have to give the manager longer.
"We saw it with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] when it took him a couple of years at United, and [Jurgen] Klopp at Liverpool, but these things take a little bit of time.
"Arsenal have a lot of very good potential players, but it is just potential."
This was Arteta's 20th defeat in 60 Premier League matches in charge of Arsenal, and if that's compared to Arsene Wenger's reign, he didn't register that total until his 116th game.
Bernd Leno produced a number of vital saves, especially in the second-half, and was arguably the Gunners' best player despite Aaron Ramsdale's arrival from Sheffield United on Friday.
Emile Smith-Rowe and Albert Sambi Lokonga also displayed moments of class, but it was few and far between through the Arsenal side.
After the match, Sol Campbell gave his reaction to his old side's defeat and shared similar thoughts to Keane but insists that there cannot be a repeat of that performance in the future.
He said: "I think for me, it is all about how we react now.
"That is now two games, two losses, but you have to somehow get the team working properly. You can’t leave anything to chance because we haven’t got the quality.
"We have to be solid, be solid first and start building. It is so difficult to win games in this league, you know the top teams that have the space, that good player to turn to, Arsenal just can’t do that.
"I think you have to drill it into the players and then we will be hard to beat and then we just go from there. There are players to come back in but even when those players come back in, it is the same situation."
