Roy Keane accused Man Utd player of "cheating" in Man City loss

Roy Keane has accused Manchester United midfielder Fred of "cheating" his teammates during the Red Devils' 2-0 defeat to Manchester City .

United legend Keane was not impressed with the way Brazilian Fred had defended as City grabbed their second goal.

Fred failed to track back, according to the Irishman, as Raheem Sterling broke through the United midfield before teeing up Leroy Sane.

Midfielder Fred joined United from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer but has only managed 25 appearances.

Keane's outburst came after Gary Neville reckoned that United's players had given their all.

Neville argued that it wasn't a lack of effort from the Red Devils but simply their standard was found out by title challengers City.

"What we saw there tonight is the gulf between the two teams," Neville said on Sky Sports. "I don't think I looked at any player on that pitch and thought that they could have given more, that is just what they are."

But Keane, who won seven Premier League trophies at Old Trafford, disagreed with his former teammate and picked out Fred as his example for laziness.

"You need to see Fred for the second goal if you are on about players giving it all," Keane said.

Manchester Derby player ratings as Bernardo Silva shines while David de Gea flops

"That isn't giving his all, that is cheating. Just cheating letting the guy run off him."

Bernardo Silva had earlier opened the scoring for the visitors with a clever piece of footwork to beat Luke Shaw before beating David De Gea at his near post.

The result sent City back to the top of the Premier League, overtaking Liverpool by a point, while United are struggling to make the top four and a Champions League place.
