"You can't buy a win over me!" Roy Jones Jr hits out at 'boxing billionaire' Joe Fournier

Roy Jones Jr has warned 'boxing billionaire' Joe Fournier he can't buy his way to victory in the ring.

Fournier made his fortune via a string of nightclubs before switching his attention to boxing where he has amassed nine professional victories.

He was beaten by friend and former sparring partner David Haye in an exhibition bout earlier this year - and has now set his sights on ring legend Jones Jr.

The America returned to the sport himself last year when he fought to a draw with former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson.

And while he is keen to face Fournier, he dismissed his potential rival's boast that he will be too young and too fast for the 52-year-old.

"I know Joe thinks he can take the chance now and maybe land a shot because I'm a little older and not in my prime anymore," he said.

"And I know because he's a billionaire he can buy anything he wants; I understand he can buy anything outside the ring but when you pay me to go in the ring, that money doesn't count anymore; you can't buy your way to victory.

'There's no sense in thinking that just because you've got money you can take me out. I'm too good for that, it's not happening."

Jones Jr won world titles in four divisions during his prime before retiring in 2018 before making his return against Tyson.

He is currently training British middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr as he prepares to face Liam Williams next month.

He is willing to step in the ring with Fournier - if the money is right; but Fournier is confident he could upset the odds.

"I make more money in 45 minutes than he's made his whole career," he retorted. "What's the point in being a legend if I've made so much more money?

"Is he sure he's calling out Joe Fournier and not Joe Biden? Because he's the only Joe around his age group that he can beat."
