Roy Hodgson states why Frank Lampard deserves credit for his Chelsea job so far

Roy Hodgson has heaped praise on the job that Frank Lampard has done at Chelsea since taking on the role as head coach.

The former England international celebrated his one year anniversary as Blues boss on Saturday in what it has been a season full of ups and downs.

Lampard's side are currently still inside the top four and have the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United to play.

With losing Eden Hazard last summer and also having a transfer ban to deal with, Lampard has brought through several youngsters from loan and the academy into the first team.

And Hodgson believes that Lampard deserves praise for the job that he has done so far.

"He has done a very good job and I'm very pleased that is being recognised," Hodgson said.

"The club has done a good job too going for a young manager, giving him a chance. He's started bringing in the younger players and not complained that some of the teams around them have spent more money.

"Frank's got on with that very well, not seen any suggestions from him that he has been missing out on major transfers up until now.

"He's done his work with his players there and given the young players he and Jody Morris knew about a chance to play.

"As a result we've seen the likes of Mason Mount, Ross Barkley and Reece James - just to name three- have really profited from having a manager that really believes in them.

"As a result they've brought the quality we've known they possessed. That's helping the team to great success.

"I congratulate Frank on the job he has done so far but let's not hope I am congratulating him tomorrow. Let's hope I'm disappointing him."
