Roy Hodgson speaks out on Yannick Carrasco links and Crystal Palace's transfer deadline day plan

Roy Hodgson has denied any knowledge of Crystal Palace being linked with a move to sign Belgian international Yannick Carrasco ahead of the January transfer window deadline.

However, he has not ruled out any further signings at Palace before the window closes, with the Eagles working on a deal to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson.

Hodgson has confirmed that he is waiting for news on that deal from Palace's sporting director Dougie Freedman, with the Eagles hoping to make the 19-year-old their third signing of the January transfer window.

But while Palace have been linked with a move to sign Carrasco from Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, Hodgson has poured cold water over that.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

“I didn’t know we were trying to get him. No," he said, when asked about the 26-year-old winger.

Hodgson has, however, suggested that Palace will be open to opportunities in the closing stages of the transfer window, with the Eagles boss outlining what he would want in any potential new arrivals on transfer deadline day.

“When we talk about a domino effect, it could come from anywhere. It could be a knock on the door an hour before the deadline," he said.

"But the players you have identified as the right ones, that doesn’t necessarily happen in two hours before the deadline.

"It doesn’t bother me that much, the transfer window is important for us managers and gives us the chance to improve the team.

“It depends on what is happening and how that fits in with improving the club.

“It is being open to whatever happens and being open to opportunities. The old adage of a wait and see has to be the only one we can work on."
