Roy Hodgson says Crystal Palace 'threatened' with rearranged Manchester United fixture

Roy Hodgson says that Crystal Palace have been "threatened" with a rearranged fixture against Manchester United that would see them playing three games in a week.

The fixture against Manchester United was originally pencilled in for the weekend of March 20th, the final fixture before the international break.

However, Hodgson says that it has been mooted that the game against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team could be changed to midweek around March 2nd/3rd - sandwiched between London derbies against Fulham and Tottenham.

Palace have been struggling with injuries of late, with around 10 first-team players out over the last two weeks - the most in the Premier League.

With the end of a hectic run in sight, Hodgson was asked whether a return to a slightly less frantic schedule would be a benefit to his team and perhaps allow players to come back into the side, the manager revealed the fixture conundrum.

"Well perhaps not," Hodgson told reporters. "Because we're being threatened with a game in between Fulham and Tottenham against Manchester United.

"I don't know whether that's been ratified as yet, but it's been mooted as a possibility, which would give us three games in a week and four games in under two weeks from Monday night's game against Brighton."

The need to rearrange the fixture is due to Manchester United's FA Cup quarter-final tie against Leicester City, which is due to take place on March 21st.

With United also competing in the Europa League - and likely to make it to the round of 16 following their 4-0 away victory against Real Sociedad, it means finding a gap in the fixture list is currently difficult.

A midweek game at the start of March would not be particularly welcome news for United either, with clashes either side against top four rivals Chelsea and Premier League leaders and local rivals Manchester City.
