Roy Hodgson reveals what will dictate Crystal Palace's transfers and his trust in Steve Parish

Roy Hodgson does not believe that his side's good start to the Premier League season will deter the Crystal Palace board from investing in the squad in January.

The Eagles lie sixth in the table heading into their clash with Manchester City after completing very little business during the summer transfer window.

Hodgson welcomed the return of Jordan Ayew, and signed James McCarthy, while Victor Camarasa arrived on loan at Selhurt Park - all for an outlay of around £6m.

The Palace boss has made no secret that he believes his side is missing some depth in certain areas however, and he believes the hierarchy know what is needed and that won't be impacted by an impressive opening eight matches.

Hodgson said: "No I don't think so because I think everyone is on the same page in that respect. I think the owners and Steve Parish in particular, he's fully aware of where our gaps are and what needs to do be done and that's been the case for a period of time, so I don't fear that.

"It boils down to, when January comes around is there money to spend, and I hope there will be, and then even more importantly can we find the players to spend it on?

"We are quite frugal in that respect, the players we have brought in, have brought value and largely not cost us much. I am wary of spending other people's money if I am not certain the person will prove to be valuable."

The 72-year-old has been vocal about the limitations of his squad, believing they can't give more than they are doing, but he is happy that the team are allowing Eagles supporters to dream at the moment.

Hodgson said: "I wouldn't begrudge them at the moment if they're starting to dream and starting to think that this team can take them even further.

"I think that they understand where we are and the limitations in terms of our squad and the size of our squad. So as long as I can count on that I don't begrudge them with the good feeling at the moment and the enjoyment they get from being above teams they're usually below."
