Roy Hodgson on Gary Cahill and Andros Townsend amid Crystal Palace injury crisis

Roy Hodgson has claimed his squad's fitness issues have caused the 'worst injury crisis' in his time at the club,

Gary Cahill and Andros Townsend have been added to the list as they , which meant Scott Dann and Christian Benteke came into the team.

Sam Woods, Tyrick Mitchell are on the bench, as are Connor Wickham and Victor Camarasa who have all barely featured, if at all, this season.

Hodgson said: "We have six player missing. It's the worst injury crisis since I came to the club.

"We have already lost both full-backs and the cover. We have lost Gary Cahill to injury and Andros Townsend. The team tonight is the one we can field.

"If you look at the substitutes bench, you'll see that there are three players who haven't played before in the first team."

Hodgson had admitted that 'there are one or two others who could be added to that list' before Townsend and Cahill were revealed to be missing for the derby in his pre-match press conference.

There has yet to be an update on when the duo could return and things remain uncertain for Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp.

Hodgson noted on van Aanholt: We will have to wait and see how his rehabilitation progresses. We are very much in the hands  of the medical staff in that respect because with muscle injuries the date when the player returns is of vital importance because we see so often a player coming back from an injury only to get injured again."

And Schlupp: "I don't know, the doctors are not very willing to put timescales on the injuries but it's going to keep him out for a period of time. There's no question of him just missing this one game and bouncing straight back. How long it will be I don't know. We'll have to wait and see."
