Roy Hodgson drops hint over Crystal Palace's second signing of the January transfer window

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is expecting to welcome a second new January signing to the Eagles in the coming days.

The Eagles have already signed striker Cenk Tosun on loan from Everton in the January transfer window, with the Turkish forward netting his first goal for Palace in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

But Palace have been linked with a number of other players in the January window, and Hodgson has confirmed that the Eagles are closing in on the signing of Scottish winger Scott Banks.

Reports in Scotland have suggested that the Eagles have agreed a "substantial" transfer fee with Dundee United for the Scotland U19 international, with the Daily Record reporting that it is a six-figure sum.

And Hodgson has admitted that he expects Banks to join Palace, with the 18-year-old set to link up with the Eagles' development squad initially.

"I know about Scott Banks, I believe he is on the verge of joining us," Hodgson confirmed at his pre-match press conference.

"He is a young player from Scotland, but that will be more on the academy side. I know he is a talented midfield player and it will be nice to welcome him into the club."

Hodgson has not ruled out further additions beyond Banks, but has said that he is looking forward to welcoming back players who have been out injured in recent weeks.

"We are still active, but the biggest boost will come from the players I haven’t had much chance to work with over the past few weeks," he said.

"It has been a good month, and when these guys come back, they will almost be like new players, and they will boost and bolster our squad, to give me alternatives."
