Roy Hodgson delivers Watford warning for his Crystal Palace players amid boost for the Eagles

It is match day for Crystal Palace as they prepare to welcome Watford to Selhurst Park in the Premier League.

The Eagles host the Hornets in south London, with Palace looking to make it three wins in a row in the top flight, having beaten Newcastle United and arch-rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in recent weeks.

The win at the Amex Stadium last weekend moved Palace up to 12th place in the table on 36 points, with the Eagles now nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Hodgson's men could take a big step towards securing their place in the Premier League for next season with a victory against the Hornets, who are outside of the bottom three on goal difference after their 3-0 win against league leaders Liverpool last weekend.

But Hodgson has sent his players a warning about Nigel Pearson's side ahead of the game in south London.

Here's what he had to say at his pre-match press conference.

“I expect to see the type of performance from them that I saw on the television on Saturday, when I thought they were excellent in every respect," said Hodgson, who signed a one-year contract extension yesterday ahead of the game against Watford.

“They have had some good performances before that, and then a bit of a dip, which can happen with any team in the Premier League.

“But I think they are well organised, well managed and they have got very good players. They will come to Selhurst Park feeling good about themselves and feeling very confident, which they should do off the back of that result and performance, and we need to be ready for them.”

Meanwhile, Hodgson has confirmed that the Eagles' injury list is now down to one, with Cenk Tosun ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury in training.

The Turkish striker has now returned to Everton, with his loan spell at Palace cut short following the setback, which Hodgson described as a "cruel blow" for the player and the club.

But Hodgson is looking forward to welcoming back three players who have been absent in recent weeks, after confirming that James Tomkins, Mamadou Sakho and Jeffrey Schlupp are now close to returning to the first team fold.

Hodgson confirmed that Tomkins would be back in full training on Monday following a hamstring injury sustained at Everton last month, while Sakho and Schlupp are now training with the first team again, with the Frenchman completing 90 minutes for the Eagles' U23 side earlier this week.

Sakho has not featured for Palace since New Year's Day, while Schlupp has been out since December.
