Roy Hodgson confirms Wilfried Zaha return and no Crystal Palace COVID cases amid Newcastle scare

Roy Hodgson has confirmed that both Wilfried Zaha and Luka Milivojevic are ready to return to action for Crystal Palace, and that the club have suffered no new cases of COVID-19 amid an outbreak at Newcastle.

Zaha missed the previous two fixtures against Burnley and Newcastle, both of which Palace lost without scoring a goal, after testing positive for coronavirus.

Milivojevic also contracted coronavirus while on international duty with Serbia, but was already suspended for the games against Burnley and Newcastle due to a red card picked up against Wolves before the international break.

Following the clash against Newcastle at Selhurst Park on Friday, Steve Bruce's side fell victim to an outbreak of COVID, with three players who featured against Palace testing positive. Their next fixture against Aston Villa scheduled for Friday night was subsequently postponed.

However, Hodgson was also able to confirm that there have been no new cases at Crystal Palace, despite initial concerns.

"Yes, there was a concern about COVID-19 [after the outbreak in the Newcastle United squad]," Hodgson told reporters.

"Our Doctor and Player Liaison Officer did exceptionally well to organise the team and make sure all the correct precautions were in place to avoid any outbreak in our squad.

"Yes, [Zaha is back]. He was very disappointed to miss those games. He's been with us since his negative test, he's fit and ready to play.

"We've enjoyed his presence in training this week and he's preparing to play.

"[Luka is] another one unfortunately when he went away with Serbia he contracted the virus. He's been over that for a good period of time.

"He's now back and knocking quite loudly on the door for a place in the team. We're in a good position at the moment for players who are able to play and wanting to play."
