Roy Hodgson confirms positive injury update for Crystal Palace ahead of Sheffield United clash

Crystal Palace could welcome Jeffrey Schlupp back into the squad for the trip to face Sheffield United on Sunday.

The Eagles travel to face the newly-promoted Blades at Bramall Lane on Sunday, with Palace looking to build on a point in their opening game of the season against Everton.

And Palace boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Schlupp could feature against the Blades after recovering from injury, having missed the game against Everton last weekend after going off at half time in the pre-season friendly against Bristol City last month.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference today (Friday), Hodgson said that the 26-year-old former Leicester City man has trained all week and is now in contention for the game on Sunday.

"It is a fine piece of news," he said.

"It is good to have an extra player and it’s good to have a big squad, much better than it was in pre-season."

Hodgson also confirmed that summer signings Gary Cahill, Victor Camarasa and James McCarthy are also in contention to feature, after coming through the U23 game against Birmingham City on Monday.

And with Wilfried Zaha and Cheikhou Kouyate both back after returning late to pre-season, having been involved in the African Cup of Nations, Hodgson says he is buoyed going into the clash.

"All these people we were waiting on are [now] getting training minutes behind them," he said.

"The game with the Under 23s on Monday gave me the chance to let some of those boys play 90 minutes of football."

Palace will, however, still be without long-term absentees Mamadou Sakho and James Tomkins, with Hodgson adding that they were both still unable to play as they continue to recover from injuries.
