'Roy Cropper for government' - Corrie fans hail soap legend a 'hero' as he bites back in racism storyline

Coronation Street fans reacted with delight as 'heroic' Roy Cropper bit back at vile racists in powerful scenes in Wednesday's episode. Expecting a meeting about the environment, Roy and his Weatherfield neighbours Brian Packham and Gary and Maria Windass joined the audience in the community centre.

But as eco-warrior Griff began his address, his true racist agenda became clear. Griff was gobsmacked when Roy picked apart his argument by pointing out numerous factual errors in his speech, which was filmed by his new protege Max Turner.

As the crowd began to applaud Roy, a panicked Griff realised he’d lost their support. In the cafe, Roy, Brian, Maria, Gary and Toyah Battersby decided the community centre would be a perfect place to offer help and advice to refugees.
