Roy Chubby Brown's son dies as comedian pays tribute to 'lost soul now at peace'

Roy Chubby Brown has paid an emotional tribute to his son after the death of the 'lost soul who has finally found peace'.

The devastated dad, 74, said his son Martin Thomas Reilly 'made him laugh and made him cry'.

Dad-of-seven 'Chubby' has paid a poignant public tribute to Martin.

Calling it a “time of great sorrow”, he said: “Martin made me laugh and he made me cry.

“He was a lost soul and he has finally found peace”

He thanked the public and press “for allowing him his privacy and dignity” during such a difficult time.

Chubby Brown, whose real name is Royston Vasey, cancelled several performances last month after what he called a “family tragedy,” Teesside Live reports.

The Grangetown-born comedian was due to appear at Dundee’s Whitehall Theatre and Montrose Town Hall on consecutive nights, but pulled out at the 11th hour.

Roy’s management told Teesside Live at the time: “Roy has cancelled his imminent tour dates in Scotland due to a tragic family loss.

“Roy would appreciate dignity and privacy at this sad time.”

Today it was confirmed the tragedy referred to was the death of his son, Martin Thomas Reilly.

In 2009, Mr Reilly, then aged 35, was jailed for four years for his part in a drugs distribution ring.

At the time, Chubby spoke of his sadness, telling The Gazette: “Although Martin is a grown man of 35 and making his own way in life I’m very sad to learn he is in this kind of trouble.”

Mr Reilly’s funeral was held yesterday, Wednesday, April 4, at Teesside Crematorium, Acklam.
