Rowles red card overturned by A-League MRP

The Central Coast Mariners have successfully appealed a red card handed to defender Kye Rowles after the A-League's match review panel found there to be an obvious error.

Rowles was red carded after the final whistle in the Mariners' 3-2 loss to Adelaide United on Friday, a match marred by VAR controversy.

The 22-year-old received it as he remonstrated with referee Adam Fielding as he left the pitch at Coopers Stadium.

The A-League's match review panel met on Monday and assessed the incident as an obvious error, overturning the red card after an appeal from the Mariners.

It means Rowles is free to play in the Central Coast's next match against Perth Glory.

Mariners coach Alen Stajcic was also flashed with a yellow card in Friday's match, which United won after a trio of controversial penalties involving VAR.

Stajcic disagreed with referee decisions made and described the game as "crazy".
