A rowdy road user was tackled by brave members of the public and arrested after threatening a Garda at a checkpoint.

Gardai in Clondalkin were conducting a routine checkpoint on the Tower Road heading into Clondalkin Village this morning when a man in his early 30s was stopped.

After a discussion with the Gardai present, the driver got out of his car and threatened one of the officers.

However, courageous members of the public stepped in and took the man down before he could do any damage.

Gardai told Dublin Live: "Gardaí in Clondalkin were conducting a Garda checkpoint this morning, Sunday 7th February, 2021 at approximately 9.30a.m. on Tower Road, Clondalkin.

"One man (early 30s) approached the checkpoint in his vehicle and after a discussion with the Garda stepped from his vehicle and threatened the Garda.

"He was arrested at the scene with assistance from members of the public and has been charged in relation to the incident.

"He is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court, tomorrow morning, Monday 8th February, 2021 at 10.30a.m."
