Row over what you call the end of a loaf - is it a crust or a heel?

A row has broken out online over what you call the end of a loaf of bread - with one man being dubbed 'a maniac' because he thinks it should be called the topper.

The British bread fan posted a question on Reddit asking what people call the first, and final slice in a loaf.

One of the most common answers, from those in Ireland and the USA as well as Scotland, was the heel.

But according to the Daily Mail other answers included 'nobby', 'crust', 'bird food', 'butt', 'corner piece', 'the worst bit' and 'the end piece'.

When Reddit user farmercurtis posted 'What do you call this piece of bread? I've always called it the topper,' he got some short replies.

One said: "It's the crust you maniac."

Others said they should just be called 'the ends' and another suggestion was 'bread skin'.

One user was branded a sicko for saying it was called 'the best bit'.

So what do you call it?
