Inderpreet Singh, son of former Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) president Charanjit Singh Chadha, who has been booked for sexually harassing a woman principal, allegedly shot himself dead with his licensed weapon here on Wednesday.
Police said Inderpreet left his family-owned Una Humble hotel on Lawrence road around 1:30 pm in his Fortuner to see a doctor.
Amritsar police commissioner SS Srivastava said, “As per preliminary investigation, Inderpreet shot himself inside his Toyota Fortuner and was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved. We have recovered a suicide note. A forensic team is examining the SUV.”
Indepreet, who was also booked for criminal intimidation along with his father, was reportedly upset over the entire controversy that erupted after a video purportedly showing his father in an objectionable position with the woman went viral.
The woman had later filed a complaint against Chadha and his son who were expelled from the primary membership of the Khalsa Diwan, a socio-religious body that runs many educational institutes
The principal had accused Chadha of misusing his position and “compelling her to have physical relations”. “When I refused, he threatened me,” the woman said. She added that Inderpreet threatened her on the phone.
While Chadha is on the run, Inderpreet had joined the probe on Tuesday after orders of a court that had granted him a pre-arrest bail. Inderpreet had told the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case that the video episode was a conspiracy hatched by his relative to defame his family. He also claimed that he was unaware of whereabouts of his father.
Police said Inderpreet left his family-owned Una Humble hotel on Lawrence road around 1:30 pm in his Fortuner to see a doctor. When he reached the Green Acre area on Ajnala road, he asked his driver Raj Kumar to enquire about the availability of the doctor. When the driver was away, Inderpreet shot himself in his temple with his .32 bore revolver.
The driver came back and rushed him to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Unconfirmed reports said Chadha came to see his son at the hospital and then hurriedly left.
