Row at house leads to police finding drugs inside

Detectives seized cannabis plants after busting a suspected drugs venture as they responded to "a domestic disturbance".

Officers made the drugs discovery after swooping on a property in Birkenhead on Sunday.

Police turned up at the premises in Townsend Street at 1.20am after they were called to what Merseyside Police termed "a domestic disturbance".

After gaining entry police found around 10 cannabis plants, cuttings and equipment.

Two people have been arrested.

A 38-year-old man from Bidston was arrested on suspicion of common assault and cannabis production.

He was released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

A 19-year-old woman from Bidston was arrested on suspicion of cannabis production. She has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Some of the signs that cannabis is being grown are:

• Strange smells and sounds

• Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times

• Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting

• Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed

• Heat from an adjoining property

• Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather

• Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more sinister
