Rovers fans urged to sleep out at the Mem in support of homelessness charity Caring in Bristol

Bristol Rovers fans have been urged to “sleep where you stand” by taking part in a sleep out at the Memorial Stadium to raise awareness and funds to tackle homelessness in Bristol.

Bristol Rovers Community Trust have teamed up with homelessness charity Caring in Bristol to expose Gasheads to the harsh reality of homelessness in hope of raising vital cash to help people get off the city’s streets.

The event will take place on March 6 from 8pm-7am at the Memorial Stadium, with the club offering a ticket to the club’s match with Sunderland on March 10th to every participant.

The club have asked participants to raise around £150 for the cause, as well as an initial £25 registration fee, with the club expecting to sell out all 120 spaces available.

Each participant will be treated to a panel discussion on football’s role in tackling homelessness.

Community trust CEO Adam Tutton said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Caring in Bristol on this year’s Memorial Stadium Sleep Out.

"As the football clubs official charity we look to help improve the lives of everyone within our great city and support those people experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness."

The community trust have urged participants to bring a sleeping bag, warm clothing and a ground mat and will provide everyone with a bowl of soup, a roll and a bacon butty.

The sleep out event is restricted to just 120 spaces, so in order to secure a place at this event you must pay a register fee of £25.
