AURANGABAD: A functionary of the NCP, who is also a sarpanch of a village in Osmanabad, escaped a bid on his life after unknown people fired at least two rounds on the vehicle he was driving late on Friday night.
Osmanabad SP Atul Kulkarni said, “We have registered an FIR and teams have set out to identify the suspects involved in the case. No stone will be left unturned to solve the case.”
Police said the sarpanch, Nitin Bhikkad, has escaped unhurt and the rounds fired at the vehicle had punched holes in the jeep. An FIR has been registered against unidentified suspects at Washi police station for attempt to murder and under sections of the Arms Act.
Bhikkad, 30, is one of the youngest sarpanch in the district and represents Fakhrabad village. In his complaint to the police, Bhikkad has stated that while he was at home on Friday evening, he received a call from one of his friends asking him to reach his office at Para village to discuss something.
While he was heading back home around 11.30 pm, two people waved at him to stop. Before he could react, one of them fired a round at the jeep, punching a hole in the front glass. Sensing trouble, Bhikkad accelerated the vehicle. The suspects then fired a second round in the rear of the jeep. He, however, escaped unhurt.
Despite repeated attempts, Bhikkad could not be reached for his comments.
