Roundabout road markings painted with glaring error leaves drivers baffled

Roundabouts can be hard to get to grips with for new drivers but it wasn't made any easier on one particular road after workers made a glaring error.

Even experienced motorists in the town of Berkhamsted would have been left scratching their heads when a newly painted mini-roundabout was completed with the arrows circling in the wrong direction.

The arrows instructing drivers to go anti-clockwise were spotted in Lower King's Road by a reader who sent in photos to Hemel Today.

Thankfully the mistake was quickly realised and fixed by Hertfordshire County Council's contractor for highway maintenance.

Ringway, the contractor responsible, rectified the mistake at no cost to the council and its divisional manager Kevin Carrol said: "We identified incorrect road markings in Lower King’s Road in Berkhamsted this morning.

"The work was carried out last night and we are sorry for this error.

"Our specialist road marking contractor has rectified the mistake this morning, at no cost to Hertfordshire County Council.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to residents and roads users in the area this morning."

It's not the first time road markings have gone wrong, after an angry resident who was fed up with people parking on their road took it on themselves to paint their warnings.

Fed up with the delay to have double yellow lines installed by the council, the anonymous resident in Middlesbrough grabbed a paintbrush - but should probably should have taken a dictionary too.

The warnings read: 'KEAP CLAER' and 'KEEP KLEERE PLZ' - leading to the council vowing to track them down and take legal action over the "stupid" and "utterly disrespectful" act. You can see it here.
