Security will roam Glendore Public School 24 hours per day over the school holidays after a break and enter in recent weeks.
The Maryland school, which has had multiple break-ins over the past two years, was hit again on December 19.
Newcastle City Police said there had been an attempt to gain entry to a store room inside a building but no property was taken.
The NSW Department of Education is taking no chances with the school and has installed round-the-clock guards until students return in late January.
"In consultation with local police, the department has increased security at the school for the remainder of the current holidays after this incident," a department spokesperson said.
"Construction of a security fence at the school is scheduled to start by the end of next month."
The NSW government announced it would fast-track the construction of the fence in August, after years of campaigning by the school's P&C and Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery.
The existing waist-high fence had been highlighted as a contributing factor for the frequent break-ins.
In a post on the school's Facebook page on Saturday, principal Khalil Khay urged those who witnessed "anyone onsite not carrying Identification, including accessing the school's oval and playground" to contact police.
