Round of applause after abusive passenger is hauled off plane at Edinburgh Airport

An abusive air passenger who left a stewardess in tears was hauled off a flight at Edinburgh Airport – prompting a round of applause on-board the plane.

The 37-year-old was given a police warning after officers were called to the incident on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses say that the man began shouting abuse at a stewardess in mid-air during the Jet2 flight from Bulgaria to the Scottish capital.

They say he followed her to the front of the plane, was aggressive towards her and used "vulgar language".

They told the Daily Record : "He shouted: 'What are you going to do, what are you going to do up here?'"

The witness said that the stewardess backed away repeatedly and said she would not tolerate his abuse, and he raised his fists several times and took steps towards her.

They added: "The stewardess was tearful and spent time in the pilot's cabin. I am not sure if the idiot damaged or messed the toilet but the stewardess spent several minutes cleaning it after he vacated it.

"On arrival in Edinburgh we were told to stay seated, when four police officers boarded and arrested the man. The man was taken off the plane to a full round of applause. Jet2 staff were professional throughout this scary ordeal and cannot be praised enough."

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "Jet2.com takes immense care and pride in the training of its staff. In all situations our teams do their best to be calm and professional, ensuring that a minority of disruptive passengers do not spoil the holidays of those other travellers on board."

Edinburgh Airport say that police were asked to attend and the issue was resolved on-board.
